Old Nomination: FORUM DOMITII
Forum Domitii is one of the oldest Roman settlements in Gallia after
Aquae Sextiae (Aix-en-Provence) and Narbo (Narbonne). Having been built
ex nono by Cneus Domitius in 117 b.c., it was without geographic references
for a long time, known only through Roman historians.
Recently, after long and painstaking research, it was located near
Montbazin, in an area devoted to the cultivation of grapes. Thanks to the
numerous sites which became exposed during the cultivation of the soil,
we know that Forum Domitii lies beneath the vines. |
