Location: CHAUTEAUX - ROUSSILON
Old Nomination: RUSCINO The most important archaeological site discovered in the last 20 years after Ambrussum. Situated in a strategic position at the end of the plateau which dominates the valley of the river Têt, from which the Pirenei are visible, Ruscino reached its greatest splendour under the rule of Augustus. The excavations of 1970/75 have exposed the foundations of the heart of the Roman city: the forum , an urban complex which is unique in France. |
