WELCOME TO GISIG WWW Server

GISIG was constituted in 1992 and is a sectoral non-profit making Association on Geographical Information Systems (GIS) grouping about 100 Organisations from 21 European countries.
They are organisations working on territorial subjects and research institutions which guarantee interdisciplinary experiences, both on GIS as technological tools and on their sectoral applications (urban and territorial planning, agriculture, transports, environment, etc.).
GISIG aims at realising the co-operation among GIS operators through the promotion and development of joint European projects (in the field of education and training, research and development, as well as regional development policies).
Such projects are mainly devoted to the technology transfer towards SMEs and Local Public Authorities, and to the exchange of experiences at European level, also promoting the international cooperation with particular emphasis towards the Central and Eastern European Countries.

Thanks to the technology of Virtual Reality you can now tour this extraordinary monument at your leisure from wherever you are in the world and experience it as if you were actually in it. Moreover, at the touch of a button you will be taken two thousands year back in time and will be able to visit, with the same degree of realism, the Colosseum in its pristine splendor as it was on one day of its dedication by the emperor Titus.

Go into the arena, walk among the marble seats reserved for the Roman senators, stroll under the marble colonnade of the gallery, or fly over the whole structure, which you will also be able to take apart and section in order to understand the details of its incredibly advanced building technique. The Colosseum is a joint production of ENEL, Infobyte, and Banca di Roma to celebrate the Rome Jubilee of the Year 2000.
